A sophisticated summer cardigan by the manager of the Kaffe Fassett studio, Brandon Mably. This classic cardigan brings the colors and shapes of hand glazed craftsman art tiles to live in a very versatile summer cardigan. Brandon's colors are wonderfully faded pastels on a rich dusky brown background. "Old Tiles" was one of Mably's most enduring designs -- he republished it in his first book and also created a winter version in wools. Knit in Rowan Cotton Glace, Fine Cotton Chenille, and Kaffe Fassett Kid Silk, Old Tile features simple shaping, a crew neck, and drop shoulder full length sleeves.

Rated for intermediate knitters, the design is suitable for anyone comfortable with knitting intarsia from a chart. The design comes in one size with a finished bust measurement of 44 inches. In Rowan's current sizing scheme it will fit up to an XLarge comfortably. Although designed for a woman, we feel Old Tile could be converted to make a great vest or waistcoat for a man. The colors are suitable for either gender. Our kit contains all the original yarns you require to complete the sweater in Brandon's wonderful colors. Cotton Glace, a light weight mercerized cotton with a lovely sheen has been a classic in the Rowan summer line up for years. In its later incarnations fine cotton chenille was composed of 85% cotton wound around a polymide core for strength. It came in 50 gram balls. Kaffe's Kid Silk was a lovely blend of 70% kid mohair and 30% mulberry silk and came in 25 gram skeins. The mohair gives the overall design loft and the mulberry silk adds a soft sheen. The patterns calls for a tension of 23 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 3 (3.25mm) needles. The pattern is found in Rowan's Knitting Magazine number 21, published in Spring of 1997.
