Kim Hargreaves turned out classic, wearable designs for Rowan for many years. "English Rose" is a rich floral tapestry intarsia with easy shaping and timeless colors. The design was published in Rowan Knitting Magazine 13 in the Spring of 1993. English Rose is rated for expert knitters and is suitable for someone who enjoys working multi-color intarsia from a chart. It could be knit on a simple machine or frame given the gauge of the yarns. The design features a loose fit, modified drop shoulder sleeves, and simple ribbed borders at the neck, waist and cuffs. The colors are as fresh today as when it was published -- a true classic. Knit in soft 100% cottons including Rowan Sea Breeze, Cotton Glace, Nice Cotton, Hand Knit DK Cotton, Cable Mercerised Cotton and Fine Cotton Chenille. Each of these yarns came in 50 gram balls/skeins. The finished pullover can be made in any of three sizes -- Small (finished bust 48 inches), Medium (finished bust 50 inches), and Large (finished bust 52 inches). Kim loved generously sized drapey garments, but if you wanted to narrow the width, the pattern doesn't match at the seams making the adjustment easy. Our kit contains all the vintage cottons you need to complete the jumper in any of the sizes, using Kim's original colors. The patterns calls for a tension of 24 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 3 (3mm) needles.

The black backgound consists of matching lots. The contrast colors are generally, but not always the same dye lot as there will be no discernable difference in the finished garment given the complex pattern.
